Cathy Cederlind

Cathy Cederlind is a self-taught bead embroidery artist residing in Gold River, CA. Cathy approaches her jewelry as a painter approaches a canvas, stitching with a needle rather than painting with a brush. Herwork is greatly influenced by nature and often her color scheme reflects that found in the outdoors.

Cathy begins her work with an object of interest. This may be a vintage button, a semi-precious stone,an artistic clay cabochon or whatever she finds appealing. Once a focal point has been chosen, secondary elements are select and bead embroidery begins! Cathy prefers to embroidery on fine Italianleathers and Ultrasuede, a synthetic suede. Often, vintage buttons are used as closures for her jewelry.

Cathy began bead embroidery 15 years ago after attending a workshop in Oakland, presented by LauraMcCabe. Cathy has taken numerous art and designs classes at Northern Illinois University, the ArtInstitute in Chicago and American River College.
