Michelle Andres

I moved closer to nature. My home moved, my work moved, my heart and soul moved.

Living near a river has not only changed my life and work…it has changed me. Captivated by the parklands, rivers and natural surroundings, my pictures strive to capture the essence of Nature’s gifts, which far outweigh our human pursuits.

A Joyful Day

My work explores this intimate relationship with rivers and parklands and embraces the seasonal beauty of the landscape, which so strongly complements the rhythm of our lives.  A walk through this terrain offers a place to search one’s soul and focus on all that is bigger than us. The interplay with nature, sharing a space with the wildlife and foliage, recalibrates and resets what I innately know as truth.

A Fine Young Man

The work itself is composed of layers of oil paint, exploring the terrain. Working in a redacted fashion, I employ my previous experience as an abstract painter to work through contemporary compositions. The organic nature of oil paint is perfect for this exploration. Large piles of it, like slippery, muddy, earth, complete my experience and interpretation of the rivers and wetlands I so adore.
