There are things you can’t reach. But you can reach out to them, and all day long.
The wind, the bird flying away. The idea of God.
And it can keep you as busy as anything else, and happier.
….
I look; morning to night I am never done with looking.
Looking I mean not just standing around, but standing around as though with your arms open.
Mary Oliver from Why I Wake Early (Where Does the Temple Begin, Where Does It End?)Â
I have been captivated by visual imagery all my life, and my discovery of the transformative power of photography years ago began a lifelong enchantment with the form. From the early days of working with traditional methods in the darkroom through the transition to digital technology, I am still fascinated with the potential of the camera to so beautifully capture both the tangible and intangible. Through my photographs, I continue to explore new ways to express my wonder at the broad mystery of the world.
Photographic imagery is grounded in the material world but has the capability to capture what is not always perceived, observed, or even seen with the naked eye. This is where the real excitement begins for me. And while this is the foundation of my love for the medium, the digital age has expanded the photographer’s palette and affords the ability to create images that begin with the real world but extend to the imagination.Â
I never tire of finding new ways to see and experience the world, and of creating and sharing the imagery of discovery.
