NOVEMBER 2019 – “LINEAR ABSTRACTIONS” by artist Joe Strickland

ARTHOUSE Gallery and Studios is proud to present “LINEAR ABSTRACTIONS” by artist Joe Strickland.  Exhibit November 9, 2019 through December 10, 2019.  Opening reception on Second Saturday November 9, 6-9pm.

Contemporary artist, Joe Strickland likes to push boundaries & explore new ways of expression.  What motivates his approach to art making is finding new products, techniques & exploring new mediums by intermixing “what-ifs”. His experience with screen-printing years ago has taken him  to new discoveries that go far beyond pushing ink through silk. The inspiration behind the series”Linear Abstractions” comes from architecture, land & seascapes. He combines the simplicity of line & the complexity of abstraction to create compelling compositions that evoke emotional respond.

The exhibit at ARTHOUSE includes a combination of acrylic on canvas, mixed media and “hybrid monotypes.” Joe Strickland’s paintings are water-based pigments mixed with oil resulting in incredible textures, values and hues. His unique technique combined with a background in serigraphy have inspired him to push the boundaries to invent new ways of expression in the fine art of printmaking.  Strickland will push a medium in order to uncover an inventive method of using it in unconventional means. Even though his primary medium is paint, he will reach for a piece of paper, cloth, trowel or wisp broom before he picks up a brush.  He says, “With a bit of technical know-how and imagination, I believe that most any device can be dared to serve as something other than what it was designed to do. Merging conventional mediums with modern technology, has opened a new world of creative possibilities for me.”

Building compositions by overlapping and intertwining layers of pigment is a hallmark of Strickland’s abstract work. Recently he has applied the same theory to the use of multiple mediums synchronously layered and integrated into the composition. He is also using a hybrid technique to print onto glass, acrylic and other materials. The transparent, translucent and reflective properties of these materials have introduced new dimensions, which have prompted Strickland to study the many sources of light and how significantly it contributes to color.

His distinctive style has given him local, national and international recognition with many private and corporate collectors.
