It Begins With Color

Featuring the Artworks of Gay Jegers

ARTHOUSE on R is pleased to present the art exhibition “It Begins With Color,” featuring the artwork of Gay Jegers.

On view from July 10 – August 2, 2026, the exhibition will be featured in the ARTHOUSE Gallery, located at 1021 R Street in Sacramento’s premier art destination, the historic and creative R Street Corridor. The opening reception will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 5 – 8 PM with an Artist Talk at 6 PM.

Gay Jegers is a self-taught mixed media artist based in Auburn, California. Her work centers on evocative, intuitive expression and invites viewers to experience not a defined “thing,” but the energy of the paints and materials themselves. For Jegers, the process feels like a call and response. Her inner-self sends out emotions and sensations, and her artist-self answers by translating them into color, texture, and movement.

“I create art to play, to wonder, and to experiment. And I create art to connect, first to my own emotions and unconscious, and then outward to those who experience my work. My hope is that something resonates beyond the surface in a way that feels personal and alive. Our lives are our art, and I express mine through what I create.”

In addition to the exhibit, the ARTHOUSE on R’s 21 resident artists will open their studios to the public for Second Saturday, July 11, from 5-8 PM.

Located in the heart of Sacramento’s historic R Street Corridor, ARTHOUSE on R is home to a dynamic collective of artists, studios, and gallery spaces dedicated to showcasing contemporary art and fostering community engagement.
