ARTHOUSE is proud to present the art exhibition “The Dancing Eye” atARTHOUSE Gallery on historic R. Street in Sacramento, April 9 – May 5, 2020.
Please join us as we feature the digital photography work of Rick Wise at ARTHOUSE on R Gallery, 1021 R. Street in Sacramento. The opening reception including an opportunity to meet the artist is Saturday, April 11th from 6:00 – 9:00.
“The Dancing Eye ” features colourful, contemporary, digitally manipulated images by Rick Wise resulting in thought-provoking compositions. Finished images are hot-fused onto aluminum substrates, which lend interest to the already engaging subject matter.
84-year-old Wise spent most of his career in California working as a cinematographer. Comfortable behind the camera, he took traditional photos in his early years. After retirement, he and his wife Victoria settled in the small community of Amador City in the Sierra Foothills where he works out with kettlebells, cooks and creates art at a prolific rate. Aside from his art Wise’s zest for living inspires us to embrace creativity and live productive days well into our golden years.
Wise’s lifelong study of color, composition and the play of light and shadow lends itself well to his current contemporary aesthetic. ARTHOUSE Gallery is pleased to feature images from his Everyday Things, Time-Flows and Fusions collections. Everyday Things offers unique perspectives of common objects. For example, the curious underbelly of a wheelbarrow, or the juxtaposition offered by wineglasses enveloping a sledgehammer. Time-Flows warp time by expanding and contracting movement in the photograph – effectively changing time and space in a snapshot. Finally, Fusions presents an abstract view of our world by manipulating the perspectives of objects we’d otherwise recognize. Selected work from each collection will be on view.
In addition to the Gallery Show, ARTHOUSE resident artists will open their studios to the public for Second Saturday, April 11th from 6:00- 9:00
