July 2020 – Elan Vital

“Élan Vital”—Featuring Artwork by Margarita Chaplinska

ARTHOUSE Gallery is pleased to present the art exhibition “Elan Vital”, July 11 – August 30, featuring the artwork of Margarita Chaplinska. The exhibit includes images of women of all ages rendered in oil and mixed media, but the special focus is on works featuring images of Chaplinska’s 10-year-old daughter, Anastasia. Some of these pieces are a collaboration between mother and daughter. In the artist’s words, “The woman is a WOMAN in any time of her age. It’s not about the lipstick and feminine look, it’s about her big actions, high dreams and strong faith in life!” Her works capture the spirit of élan vital— the vital force or impulse of life especially; a creative principle held by the French philosopher Henri Bergson to be inherent in all organisms and responsible for evolution.
Margarita Chaplinska is an artist living and working in Roseville, CA. She was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and received a degree from National Academy of Fine Arts (Kiev, Ukraine) in June 1998. Margarita specialized in modeling, texturing and graphic layout, and contributed to designs, concepts and finished assets. She has won many awards including a Juror’s Award at the KVIE Art Auction and 2nd place at the Crocker Art Museum’s Hope And Peace exhibition. Her work was selected for the 2016 Crocker Museum’s Annual Art Auction. You can find her paintings in many private collections in the USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Russia, and Ukraine.
